Hawaii

Hawaii

There’s more to Hawaii than pineapples and hula skirts. With six islands to explore (Hawaii’s Big Island, Maui, Lanai, Molokai, Oahu, and Kauai) the Pacific’s paradise offers more than its share of breathtaking views. Take the many volcanoes that helped make up the islands, some of which are still active. That’s not the reasons locals are shaking in their skirts though. Hula dancing is Hawaii’s bread and butter. Nobody can shake it like these girls or guys for that matter. But you’re   More...

  Oahu

Oahu is the third largest of the islands of Hawaii (the Big Island and Maui are both larger), located in the United States of America, and the most popular tourist destination. As the location of Honolulu, the state capital, and as home to over 85% of the state's population, the island is appropriately nicknamed "The Gathering Place."

Nicknamed "the Gathering Place," and home to the only real metropolitan area in the Hawaiian Islands, Oahu is truly at the heart of Hawaii. This has been both a blessing and a curse for the island.

Maui

The island of Maui is one of the islands of Hawaii, a state of the United States of America.

"Maui no ka oi": that's Hawaiian for "Maui is the best", and this local motto reflects a common sentiment among natives and tourists alike: Maui really is the best part of Hawaii. With its wide beaches, lush rain forests, expansive mountaintop vistas, and humpback whales in the winter, Maui certainly makes an impressive case for itself.

Maui is shaped something like a figure eight turned on its side. The massive volcanic bulk of Haleakala   More...

  Kona

Kailua-Kona, commonly called Kona, is a major tourist destination town on the Big Island of Hawaii.Get around

Traffic was pretty minor before but is not so in Kona. Driving in tourist-oriented areas can be slow, but the town is generally not large enough to have serious congestion. Walking is a great way to move from place to place if you're taking in features of the town. But you should rent a car because there are some place where there is only lava.

Activities

There is great snorkeling at a local beach park called Kahaluu.   More...

Kauai

Kauai (or, more properly, Kaua'i) is the northwestern most and oldest of Hawaii's major islands. Called the Garden Island, it is covered with lush greenery and tropical plants, watered regularly by abundant rainfall. As the oldest of the islands, it has been changed the most by the forces of erosion, and this has resulted in natural wonders such as Waimea Canyon and the Na Pali Coast. It is also home to more sandy   More...
  Getting Around

Get in

Hawaii is the only state in the U.S. with Interstate Highways that don't connect to another state. They are H-1, H-2, and the newest one H-3, all located on the island of Oahu.

By plane

Honolulu International Airport  is the main aviation gateway for the Hawaiian Islands. The airport's Main Terminal is served by most major American airlines from the mainland U.S, and by many international airlines from other countries around the Pacific Rim. Its Interisland Terminal is the home of Hawaiian Airlines and Aloha Airlines,   More...
